Your installed mod will only appear in the drop-down menu if you extracted it correctly, to the right location, and the mod has to be compatible with the game version and free from errors.
Most popular mods with good support should work fine with the latest game version, 1.174. Mods with special compatibility requirements should be documented on their forum or mod description page.

Incorrectly extracted mod data
Incorrectly extracted mod data
The most common mistake people make is they extract the mod to a folder inside another folder. You can check whether you have done this by opening the extracted folder and seeing if it contains multiple items or just a folder. If it contains just one folder, you probably need to copy that folder into the Modules folder. Try that and see if your mod is detected.
Most mods need to be extracted directly to your Modules directory. Check to ensure you can open Modules/Your New Mod and see a Data folder one level deep. If you have to open more than one folder before you see the Data folder, you probably created an extra level. Either start over and extract the zip contents directly to the Modules folder or move the mod folder that is one level too deep up to the root of the Modules folder. You will then need to delete the extra folder with the bad structure. Then, you should be able to run your mod!
The examples below show the folder structure that should be in place once you install the Full Invasion 2 mod. I also included an example of what it looks like when you make the common mistake of allowing 7-Zip or Windows zip utility to create the extra folder. Notice that in the correct version, each Module has a Data folder in its root directory.

I created this guide over 10 years ago to help my fellow Warband players navigate the mod installation process. I couldn't have predicted that the game and the community of players is still going strong in 2021. It is a testament to the quality of the game design of Mount and Blade: Warband that so many players, including myself, still find such enjoyment in the game after all these years.
